This 4th of July turned out to be a great one. First off, it’s rare for Dan to even have this day off from work. If I am remembering correctly, I don’t think he’s had this day off since we got married 4 years ago. I had to work for a little while that morning, so when I left the house I asked Dan if we were going to try and do anything after I got home. Neither of us had had the time nor the forethought to try and make any plans, so we figured at that point that we’d be spending our 4th of July bored. But somehow, plans changed…and rather quickly. By the time I walked in the door, I was hurrying around gathering bathing suits and towels. We ended up starting out our 4th of July celebration relaxing and having a great time at a pool with Jenny and Matt Parker and Jenny’s parents. We always have a great time with Jenny, Matt and Ava and this was no exception. We talked, watched the girls have a good time in the pool, and even managed to drink a few pina coladas.
I was blown away by Ava and her swimming skills. Jenny has been taking Ava to her Dad’s pool since shortly after she was born, so Ava is quite used to the water. Jenny and Matt put “swimmies” on Ava’s arms when they arrived and Ava went on her merry way to have a good time in the water. I watched in awe as she jumped off the side into the pool and wanted nothing to do with a float or anyone trying to hold onto her. As you can probably guess, Brittain was her polar opposite. If Brittain wasn’t in a float, then she had a death grip on whoever was holding her. There was no way she was letting go. She enjoyed watching Ava, but that was about as far as it went.
After spending a few hours partying with the Parkers, we quickly ran home and changed clothes before heading over to Gramy and Papa’s for pizza. Brittain was festive in her red, white and blue and went ready to play.
By the time sundown came around we were almost too tired to attempt the fireworks show in Griffin, but this was going to be Brittain’s very first fireworks show and we didn’t want her to miss it. So, we packed a cooler full of beer and milk sippy cups and headed to the Roses parking lot where we sat and waited for what seemed like forever. When the show finally started, Dan and I were definitely more excited than Brittain. By this time, the crowd that had gathered in the parking lot was more interesting to Brittain than the fireworks show. I’m leaning towards agreeing with her on that one.
